Technician repairing a car tire

The Maintenance Checklist:

Tire Inspection: The four tires your Chevrolet vehicle rides on are incredibly important to not only the performance of your vehicle but also your safety! It is important that they are in good condition to provide traction no matter the terrain or weather conditions you come up against. First, you should check that each tire is properly inflated and if not, top them off with air as instructed in the door jam. Next, conduct the “penny test” to monitor the tread on all four tires. Simply place the penny with President Lincoln’s head facing down into the tread (in multiple places on each tire) and if at any time you see the top of his head that means the tread is too worn, and you need a new set of tires. You should also rotate your tires to help even tread wear and superior handling.

Technician repairing batteries

Check the Battery: The extreme heat that Victory Layne Chevrolet experiences every year can really do a number on your Chevrolet’s battery. When inspecting the battery, look for any bubbling in the casing caused by the extreme heat, loose connections, and corrosion around the connections. You will also want to ensure that the battery is properly mounted to avoid any vibrations or other problems when driving. This is also a good time to check the age of your battery. Most manufacturers suggest that you swap out the old for new every 4-5 years. If your battery is getting close to that time, getting a new battery could prevent a lot of problems down the line.

Checking car engine fluid levels

Check Fluid Levels: There are so many fluids running through your Chevrolet’s engine to help it do its job. These fluids include power steering, braking, transmission, and coolant. Another fluid to check on is the windshield wiper fluid. You don’t want to be stuck with a dirty windshield when you’re driving down 75 in search of new adventures! Remember, when checking on the levels of all these fluids that you can easily top them off, but the power steering, braking, and coolant fluid systems are all closed. This means if you notice the fluids are low, you may have a leak that needs to be checked out as soon as possible.

Pouring oil into engine for smooth performance

Change out the Oil: One of the most important routine maintenance tasks is the oil change. It may seem like a small, tedious task but it ensures that your engine is able to run just as it should. If you don’t change your oil, it will start to degrade, collecting debris like metal shavings, dirt, and dust that turn it into sludge. That sludge starts to clog the oil filter and the moving parts of the engine that need lubrication won’t get it. This can result in terribly expensive engine damage. Keeping up with routine oil changes will save your engine from all that trouble.
